Route 1 – Cat’s Medium – Distance: 261 Miles
A ride through the heart of the Catskill Mountain Park. Country roads and sweepers until you get to Kaaterskill Falls on Rt. 23A. Then more sweepers going south on scenic Rt 214. Once you get into the park it is mostly back roads, and some sections are very remote. Lunch in Woodstock, then many miles of remote back roads so get gas before getting on Rt 28A. Then take Rt 28A along the southern part of Ashokan Reservoir, Peekamoose Mountain, and Sundown Wild Forest where it is usually 10 degrees cooler riding under a canopy of trees. Then head north along the Neversink River, through Frost Valley, Oliverea, and Big Indian. As you continue north out of the park going along the Schoharie Reservoir, then back roads to the hotel.
Route 2 – Fort Ticonderoga – Distance: 240 Miles
A ride in the southern Adirondacks to Fort Ticonderoga, a revolutionary war fortress on the shore of Lake Champlain. It is mostly sweepers in the wide open Adirondack park with some twistie fun parts along the Great Sacandaga Lake, and parts of Rt 28N are like a roller coaster. Plenty of gas stops with lunch at Paradox Brewery. POI’s before lunch would be Sporty’s Iron Duke Saloon (a cash bar with antique bikes and memorabilia). Also Adirondack Buffalo Company. A buffalo farm where you can see buffalo and buy frozen bison meat. After lunch you have Fort Ticonderoga. Then a nice ride down Rt 9N through the pine trees to Lake George village. After that take I 87 back to the hotel.
Route 3 – Lake Placid & White Face Mountain – Distance: 351 Miles
Eat your Wheaties for this long ride in the Adirondack Park with a good mix of twisties, sweepers, scenic highways and byways. Taking a scenic fun ride up to the Lake Placid Pub and Brewery for lunch. After lunch check out the High Falls Gorge, and then to the White Face Mt summit weather observatory and Castle Cafe, (if you want to pay the toll). Then ride south to Tracy Rd again, and get gas in Port Henry. After gas heading south on scenic Rt 9N to Lake George village. Then take highway I 87 south to the hotel.
If you want to shorten this route to 265 miles, make a u-turn at the end of Tracy Rd and go right back over it to head back. This will skip the lunch stop, Lake Placid, White Face Mt. You could get lunch in Port Henry or Ticonderoga. This is still a very nice ride with some of the best roads in the Dacks.
Route 4 – Mt. Greylock – Distance: 197 Miles
A short ride on scenic highways through NY, VT, and Mass., going over Mt Greylock to see the WW1 War Memorial. Lunch stop at the Golden Eagle with a great view. POI’s before lunch are Metcalfes Distillery, and a gas stop in Brattleboro, After lunch is Mt. Greylock, and then back to the hotel.
Route 5 – Ray’s Dack’s & Greens – Distance: 359 Miles
Another long ride in both the Adirondacks and Green mountains, It’s a good mix of twisties, sweepers, scenic Byway/highways, and some highway to get you there and back. Lunch and gas stop in Bristol VT. at Cubbers Restaurant. Before lunch Take a ferry ride across Lake Champlain into VT. Then scenic Rt 100 VT north to the Mad River Glen ski area (up and over the mountain), aka Appalachian Gap, aka Buels Gore in VT. After lunch going back into NY and riding some of the best roads in the Dacks. To name a few; Tracy Rd., Ensign Pond Rd., Blue Ridge Rd., and Rt 28N. Then back to the hotel.
